Is Civitas Right for Your Family?
You may be wondering if a hybrid classical school could really work for your family. Civitas was created for families who want more than a traditional school can offer—but who don't want to homeschool.
Civitas combines Christian classical education, classroom community, professional teachers, and friendships with the flexibility and family involvement of homeschooling. It is a partnership designed to honor the central role of the family while pursuing academic excellence.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much time do parents spend teaching at home?
The students learn all new content in the classroom, and then do reinforcement practice and repetition at home. Parents will rarely teach new content unless the student was absent from class. However, some concepts need to be reviewed so parents can expect to help students with their homework. For our younger students the parents are very hands on.
Find answers to common questions about our classical curriculum, Christian foundations, and unique hybrid model.
Do I need to be a certified teacher?
No, not at all. Our teachers are professionals and trained on the curriculum. We make sure our parents are trained on the curriculum as well. We also intentionally choose curriculum that will work well with our model.Â
What does a typical week look like at home?
Every parent is given a parent resource binder. That binder contains a weekly checklist, all the rubrics, and other helpful resources. The check list is subject by subject (the same order of our school day) and says exactly what to complete for each subject each day. Once you complete and check your students work you can check it off. The home days vary by student and by grade level. It is up to the family how you wish to complete your check list. Friday is a flex day, meaning there is no checklist for Friday. If you would like to leave some work to complete on Fridays or over the weekend you can.Â
What happens on school days?
Our teachers also follow a provided check list. They will teach your students the new content to meet the objectives. Our classrooms are traditional and teacher lead. We offer P.E., classical art, and recess for all grades. Our aim is for students to enjoy school and enjoy learing. Our end goal is to be developing life long learners. Students will take all tests, quizzes, and recite memory work at school. The teachers do all the grading. We have a traditional grading scale and send home report cards.
What if we've never done classical education before?
That is not a problem. We will create the on ramp your student needs.
What if we've never homeschooled before?
Our aim is to give more time back to the family without the heavy weight homeschool can bring on parents. We intentionally curated a curriculum that is homeschool friendly no matter your background. What we ask the parents to reinforce at home is all scripted. You will also have answer keys for your students. You do have access to a teacher for help as well.Â
What is the parent's role in the Civitas model?
You will be expected to complete the home day checklist with your students and check their work.Â
How does Civitas differ from a traditional private school?
We are a hybrid model school. Your students will have three days at home and two days in the classroom. This model shapes your students and prepares them to learn to complete their own work load, to be a self motivated person, and to develop a strong work ethic. It is character building and you can expect some push back initially. However we have found this model to be extremely fruitful.
How does Civitas differ from homeschooling?
We have curated an academically rigorous curriculum for our school. Our teachers are trained and prepared to teach all the new content to your students in a traditional classroom setting. At home you will be given a checklist that must be completed each week and turned in for a grade.Â
What grades does Civitas serve?
Currently we serve Pre-K4 through 8th grade.Â
Can my child transition to Civitas from public school, private school, or homeschool?
Yes, we have had students from all backgrounds transfer in.Â
Is Civitas affiliated with a particular church or denomination?
No, CCA is a ecumenical school. We adhere to the Nicene Creed.
What are the Christian expectations for Civitas families?
CCA is a covenant school rooted in the traditional Christian faith and the authority of Scripture. We partner with families who share our commitment to Biblical truth and desire to raise their children in the knowledge and love of the Lord. We believe education is an extension of the home, and that a strong partnership between parents and school is essential to the formation of a child's character, faith and intellect. The heart behind this is simple, we wish for the student to be learning the same values at school and at home. We are upfront with this so that each family can make the best decision for their student/s prior to selecting a school.Â

How does the admissions process work?
Civitas does have limited space. It is a value for us to keep our class size small. First you will fill out an online application. You must complete the entire application, you cannot skip sections. Although only one application per family is necessary. Then we will contact you about a family interview. Due to the unique nature of our hybrid model we want to make sure this school is the best fit for your family. If you are a good fit we will contact you about placement assessments.
What if my child needs additional academic support?
Currently at Civitas we are unable to offer accommodations at school. However due to the hybrid nature of our school you can do accommodations at home and we can adjust the curriculum as well. We can also offer classes for students to audit.Â
This may not be the right fit if...
We want every family to find the educational model that truly serves their unique needs and rhythms. Civitas may not be the ideal choice for:
Families looking for a traditional five-day-a-week school
Families looking for a completely parent-independent education
Families who do not want regular home learning
Families looking for a primarily secular academic environment
